May Flies on Lake Delintment

Photography as Folklore

The relationship between a photographer and landscape is intimate. The photographer incorporates a piece of themselves within the image. Through the lens, the landscape etches itself into the heart and mind.  One can capture a vast space in Eastern Oregon or focus on a flower or animal. Some prefer daylight, some prefer to photograph the night sky. The intention of the pictures is to evoke feeling. It is through the action of sharing these images that the photographer expresses the value to this art form. The unique qualities of the picture can change perceptions and lifestyles.

“…a good photographer is by no means a mere machine following a certain set of fixed rules…, success in this art requires personal skill and artistic taste to a much greater degree than the unthinking public generally imagine”

(McClean, 2015)

“Forever silent, the photographs seem to mirror what each viewer brings to them"

(Longmire, 1997)
